sitting with perfect posture
she’s always a southern lady
good manners her forte
converses in pleasant voice
while she weighs her words
adding, “Bless their heart,”
when a comment becomes
anything but syrupy sweet
she’s learned to be kind to
the elderly even when they
are demanding and hateful
and she’s been taught to be
disgustingly deferring to men
outwardly she’s a true paragon
of womanly charm and virtue
a genteel flower of the South
inside she seethes with anger
at the injustices and slights
of a world that conspires to
always “Keep her in her place”
there’s a wild thing inside her
howling, straining to get out
a primal creature who longs to
run with wolves, hunt with lions
someday….when she wakes up
she’ll tear open the cage bars
expose to reality’s stark daylight
what she has hidden in darkness
free to run through the forest
lustily howl at the moon at last
and dare to become the liberated
honest woman she was created to be
A wonderful depiction of ole time southern (and northern) I supposed the way it used to be.
I can't imagine this being autobiographical,
You are a very strong independent woman.
But burn your bras anyway :-)
Your insight is breathtaking and alive with imagery and soul growth...I love this and the way you capture the transformation of a woman's energy that connects her more deeply with her soul!
Blessings,
Christine
I think I've met her a time or two. More so in Atlanta, and even in West Virginia, than here in Houston where she is now allowed to carry concealed to the classroom.
Methinks this may be a bit autobiographical and that's okay… Because I'd like to meet that wild one inside, so that I can let her out. ;-)
This is not a drill. The attack on Pearl. They were the ghost planes of the night, deadly, illusive, sharp-clawed Black Cats. The Memoirs of ARM H.P. Lawrence, a Pearl Harbor survivor, Black Cat, and decorated war veteran.
Love ya!

This southern belle of sweetest upbringing quivers with
the "Wild" side seeping through her veins.
Exceptional and creative writing.
