I am a simple poet, yes, I dare to call myself a poet
matters not to me if anyone else calls me that
I know that poetry is a part of my soul, the best part
you won't need a dictionary to read my work
it's simple, like me, sometimes it's ridiculously silly
when I'm in the mood to obliterate the pain
sometimes it's as honest and raw as my emotions
when I'm brave enough to face the anguish

blood flows on my pages, overt or covert
you may not see it, but it's there, lurking

sometimes I pen fantasy worlds into existence
where no one knows my name and I can be anyone
or no one, nothing at all, just an observer
fly on the wall, powerful creator of a universe
who finally has control over.....something
they say there's a lighthouse on the hill
beaming light into the night for lost sailors
but often I feel so lost not even God can find me

the waves around me never stop pounding my heart
herculean gales blow me here, there, into oblivion

but there is no oblivion and no escape anywhere or ever
and I realize, full well, I am broken beyond repair
there are no magic words or potions, no prayers
powerful enough to heal these wounds on my spirit
so until I leave for another existence....somewhere
I will pen my simple poems of humor and agony
of love and passion, horror, pain and nothingness
and I will dare to call myself a poet, even if you don't

There is nothing like being whomever we want to be through the magic of our pens! We see, hear, touch, and smell everything.....everywhere!

Love ya!

Even this self-realisation is powerfully healing in itself, Belle. And a heart such is yours is surely never beyond repair as it is also in itself a mechanism for healing. Such straightforwardness is never 'simple' but it is open, vulnerable and forthright. Whatever you choose to reveal, your words are always powerfully clarion. Wonderful work! xx

Beauty is one part simplicity and one part elegance.
You've got them both.

I have always felt a "kindred spirit" with you, Belle. My poetry is simple as well, at least to read it. But, like yours, it is born of deep emotions and thus it is open to a lot of meaning. Thank you for sharing yours. Love and best wishes,

Regis

I'll have to chalk this up to great empathy for those oppressed. For what I know of your work is strong, elegant, and refined. So far from simple that it raises other poets expectation of themselves in its perspectives.

So, I place this among your greatest work. An empathetic view from the side of the downtrodden. Bravo!

Sounds poetic to me and sets me thinking, as a good poem should. The poem inspires the reader to check out your other work which I fully intend to do. Thanks for penning your thoughts in such a poetic manner. John
