A Lesson The Years And Our Failures Will Teach Us....If We Listen and Learn.

Perfectly Imperfect

1 have accepted who I am, what I am
having once sorely striven for flawlessness
the closer I came to perceived perfection
the farther I slipped from my humanity
and from exerting any positive influence
until only frustration and strife remained
I am at perfect peace with my imperfection

accepting the fact that I am worthy of love
though perfect I am not, nor shall ever be
I have decided to be as kind to myself
as I have been and continue to be to others
altruism has conceived and brought to birth
the most desperately unfulfilled and deceived
creatures who will someday awaken and wonder
why they pissed away their lives pleasing others
hungry takers who were happy to take and take
while never full even after givers are empty,
stripped of joy and angry at themselves
for being submissive to users and abusers
turning the other cheek until both are bruised
pouring their sacred love down black holes
while striving, ever groping for the perfection
that they will never achieve, to their dismay

So I have agreed with my imperfect self to remain
hopelessly imperfect and to some degree selfish
for if I cannot love myself I cannot love another
and I will do what I must do to survive sorrow
to cast off burdens others bind on my back
I will chase, capture moments of heart cleansing joy
imperfection is human and God loves me as I am

When we make perfection the voyage rather than the absolute destination we accomplish several worthy things and can still audit and observe our methodology. We gain information that permits a continuous improvement process without the accompanying stress of being strictly driven by the need to realize absolute perfection each and every time. An interesting analogy Belle. May love and peace be always with you my dear friend. Jon Michael

"for if I cannot love myself I cannot love another"

This line holds special meaning for me as I have wondered about it throughout my whole life...this whole piece has the same special meaning though I am not as far on the enlightened path that you seem to be...keep traveling, what else is there...-e-

A poem drawn from personal experience. Seeking perfection is okay to a point, but it can become an obsession which drives out all others. The balance is to try to perfect, but know when to quit, relax and allow others into one's life.

A great lesson for us all…

Ahhh . . . Susan, you have captured the spirit of being good to yourself. I used to -- a long time ago -- try to please everyone, but eventually I saw my folly in doing do. I decided I would just speak the truth from my heart. I get rude and crude at times, although not so much lately, I suppose the fire in my belly is flattening out some the older I get. I loved this awakening poetry coming from you . . .

A beautiful poem expression a truth some of us cannot see. Imperfections lend us loveable uniqueness.
