You don't remember, Son, but I do
the very first Christmas I spent with you
not quite a year old, my sweet baby boy
you gave me purpose, brought me joy
Beautiful blonde hair and a romper red
a festive santa hat worn on your head
your Daddy took pictures of your play
on your joyful first Christmas day
tiny hands reaching for baubles and toys
jack in a box making all that noise
the way you giggled under the tree
will always be a precious memory to me
Many Christmases came and went
but none so special as the one I spent
watching wonder in your holly green eyes
at each holiday light and surprise
precious memories, beautiful times
as long as I live will still be mine
wherever you are now, I'll think of you
and hope you find joy in all you do
Those forever moments! I sit here and go though old picture albums of Christmases gone by. Some, I need to chuckle at. Some bring forth a "happy tear". Such a lovely poem and darling picture. So sweet!
What a deeply touching poem you have penned, no greater memory then that of a first Christmas with your newly born. I recall the first time I walked out of the hospital with my son in my arms and what a feeling that was. May your Christmas be one where your love and your beauty is mirrored, from God above and those around you. Thank you for sharing dear heart, have a wonderful day Ma Belle. xo
A one-year-old is just taking it all in. At Christmas, his brain must be really stimulated by all the lights and colorful things around… Great smells and tastes to the pallet as he sticks his fingers in the food and then it reaches his mouth with exploding flavor. He feels the love of mommy and daddy near. Whenever he feels worried they always pick him up and console him.
But is mommy is beaming with joy. She remembers that cute little boy. She remembers so well, she writes this poem to tell, of her great joy.
What a beautiful poem describing his very first Christmas. I know it was special to you because you so eloquently said so. It is the last two lines which befuddled me.

And yes, those last two lines…
