nothing is sadder than dinner out
you look out the restaurant window
at winter rain hitting icy pavement
and you seldom look at him
lost in your own pain and thoughts
together but so far apart
it's sad when love has finally died
without his knowing it's dead
and how many times will you hear
“Why don't you just leave,”
before you can let go completely
and at last allow yourself to go
it's sadder than sad, devastating
when your adult children are cold
and you know in your heart
they've listened to his whining
lies have prevailed above your love
there is nothing left of being “mother”
finding yourself, at last loving you
throwing off the yoke of blame
for the mistakes of others
oh, you have made many of your own
but living alone behind your sad walls
will no longer be one of them
WELL SAID, LaBELLE, AND ENJOYED. I THINK I WOULD HAVE STILL BEEN BEHIND THOSE 'SAD WALLS' IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR GOD AND HIM ALONE. THAT SAID, LET ME SAY...THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
I love introspections especially when they are sad but
revealing, poignant and honest, and above all showing us there

You've done them all with this gem.
You have rendered a beautiful poem that tugs at the heart strings, There are so many in this position, its never easy saying goodbye to a lifetime. Whether it is with love or without. I have enjoyed your poem , Ma Belle, I can imagine the freedom she felt and also the loss. Have a wonderful day dear. xo
I'm with your other fans, enjoyed this, this is a little different than I'm used to reading from you and so well done , palpable, real and I'm left wanting more of the story. I'm hooked.
At first I thought of sitting in a restaurant alone and lonely. But then you are describing what it feels like to be with someone but without them. Finding the everything you love has grown cold and indifferent to you. Like the poem relates… Sad.
In addition to what Jerry said,I can say this is also one of the most haunting poems I have ever read. The middle stanzas really stood out for me. The hurt and pain was rather crushing.
