Lord bless the beasts standing in snow deep
who have no choice about where they sleep
send them some sunshine to warm their back
a barn for the night and fresh hay in the rack
bless the stay dogs so lost and afraid
let someone kind give food and a place to stay
send them a grateful little boy or girl
thankful to have them live in their world
Oh Lord, the poor cats living on city streets
no warm place to rest and no kitty treats
A mama cat with her little ones so sweet
nowhere to shelter them and nothing to eat
I know you care about all your creation
no matter how lowly in life their station
thank you for the warm hearth I sit beside
help me to help those who shiver and cry
beasts and the children who have no choice
for the voiceless teach me to be a voice
on Christmas Eve and every day
bless the beasts and children, Father, we pray
A very thoughtful poem about how we have domesticated animals and then treated them so badly. Let us hope there will come a time when our animals that we have domesticated will all be treated well so they won't be cold, hungry, wet and afraid. Not abused, abandoned or thrown away. And most of all, we should treat our wild friends and supporters the same way.
There are definitely a lot of stray cats and dogs that need our tender love and care, no humans or animals deserve to be out in the cold in the streets. We should give them help as we see them.
