Changes *life is never stagnant* *it moves like waves* *in an eternal sea* *how long life seems* *until it isn't* *my years with you* *have been too short* *since first your love* *covered me like an eclipse* *I've hidden in your strength* *how unmerciful is time* *with minutes becoming decades* *and before we realize* *our minutes, years, decades* *have flown away in a storm* *there is so little I ask for* *my cup is filled with love* *my heart beats in peace* *but I cannot fool myself* *nor be untruthful to you* *my time has slipped away* *and too soon it will be gone* *there are things I have wished* *to give you, my youth* *to bear your children* *all I can offer is my heart* *it is no longer young and strong* *but it beats for you* *these last years are sweet* *intoxicating like brandy* *time changes everything* *strength, minds, bodies* *but it cannot change* *the love in my soul* *for the one I cherish*

This is the story that is so hard to capture--in words, mood, intention, and most of all love. Since I am passing through the same years, with similar feelings, it would be heresy to say you had me at "Changes." So I won't say it. --ed

Your poem carries such a quiet, aching honesty. I love how you trace the movement of time with both acceptance and longing, yet keep the center rooted in love. The closing lines, especially, feel like a gentle vow�love enduring even as everything else changes.

So tender and heartfelt. Our church recently lost two of our most cherished members. They passed within days of each other. He had suffered from dementia for a long time and I imagine she must have thought the same thoughts you speak of in your poem. They'd been together for over 70 years and she couldn't go on without him.
