I am so choked up after reading this. I don't get angry often but child abuse is something that really gets to me. It is easy to see that you wrote this with deep emotion. Well done!

As a card-carrying member of the ACLU, I assure you the baby has rights and would be protected under the Constitution. The problem? Tax cuts are taking away jobs in health, welfare and supervision of restaurants and other businesses. We need MONEY to staff these centers and supervisors. We cut our own baby's throats when we get excited by selfish tax cuts. We create our own dirty food supplies when we refuse to pay taxes to pay for oversight. It sounds good when we say, no more taxes, but those taxes are our union dues to the good ol' USA which ensures a safety net for kids and our elderly. Our churches cannot do it all.

YAY Karla, brava!!..as Eileen already mentioned too many times the 'POOR' parent is considered MORE than the victim-child..a crime is a crime..it should be punished...your poem really hit hard..and THAT is what is nercessary to wake the community..even Jesus took up the whip in the temple..ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!!

Thanks for bringing awareness to yet another aspect of human sickness. Why anyone wants to harm babies, or adults is a mystery to me - through beatings, bombings, or words. Seems our society is endorsing one and cursing another these days, and it's time we all stand up and say enough is enough - stop all killing and hurting one another.

If parents aren't properly parented to begin with, then how will they know how to parent in return? I've seen much of my generation (of the 60's and 70's) turn into a bunch of Dr Spock followers who let their children run wild, while they themselves marry, divorce, marry, divorce, marry, and divorce again...and in many families the children all have different fathers...kids raise themselves while parents drown themselves in their own personal crap...working 3 jobs to make ends meet, or have substance abuse issues, or delve into relationship after relationship bringing God knows who into the company of their children. When parents are so self absorbed that they don't put any effort into raising the children they brought into the world, this sort of thing seems to follow. Children need to know that their parents are in control of their lives. They need parents who are willing to guide them, teach them, nurture them, and give them what they need... They don't just need whatever is left over after the parent's carnal needs are met. They didn't ask to be born. My daughter teaches in a 'welfare' preschool that has earned the nickname 'crack baby school'. Most of the kids there are children who were born from mothers who were substance abusers while they were pregnant. Many have psychological and physical problems-uncontrolled violent outbursts...one little 2 year old went on a stabbing rampage 2 weeks ago, with a pair of scissors sending his teacher to the hospital for stitches...the teachers are overwhelmed about how to handle them. I've told my daughter repeatedly that it's hard to know what kind of environment they live in now, or what they might have seen the night before or even before they left for the school that morning. Most of the parents that come to pick up their kids aren't nurturing-no praise for a good day, or a job well done-just "Get into the car!!"...many of these same parents also appear to be involved in gang activity. When adults come to the point that they take responsibility for who they are, what they have become, and who they have given birth to, then perhaps the world can turn around the type of abuse you have written about tonight. This was powerful, powerful, powerful Karla my friend. I do hope you are feeling better dear. Your windy buddy, Michelle :-)

Far too many human monsters walk among us - and it often amazes me that mankind has lasted this long with the utter cruelty and heartlessness that we far too often inflict on our own kind.

It happens much too often. The baby cries, they lose their tempers, and wind up killing the helpless baby.
Sad, what men and woman do to their kids.

That man is sick and deserves to be shot. Where was the mother and why would she leave her baby with such an animal. I think they are probably both guilty of child abuse. I wonder how many times that man hit her in the past? Thank God the baby survived and I hope he is awarded to a wonderful family who will love and protect him. This kind of abuse is beyond my comprehension, what did he think he was going to prove. A defenseless 7 week old infant...it is so much more than a shame.

Thank you Karla for posting this as this is the baby I am talking about. Hey it is hard for those investigators to keep on the right side of the law. I say kick him on down here to Nottoway because here there is Not A Way in hell he would get away from me. But then if he is convicted maybe the boys at the prison might teach him a few things.

This is a heartwrenching story which you do so well, and an indictment against a monster!

But let's remember this when prosecutors try to punish these types
and the ACLU say oh no you can't do that, and all the do-gooders take the side of the man and the poor pitiful baby victim is forgotten about! This is played over umpteen times a day in our courts and the populace ignore it! Thanks for sharing Karla!
