I grew up Catholic. Although I am no longer practicing, I still have a soft spot in my heart for Pope John Paul II, and would ask that y'all pray for him.
"FOR POPE JOHN PAUL II" ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ He taught me what suffering is all about. I learned a great deal from his body's betrayal. Although he was in pain, he never complained.
I watched as he made new friends around the world. I saw him when he came to the U.S.A. I prayed for him when I heard he'd gotten shot. He knew how to live with dignity and grace.
I watched him grow old before my very eyes. I trembled with him when I saw his hands shake. I wanted to speak for him when his voice failed. He taught me how to live despite being ill.
He was a blessing to the old and the young. Observing him was a lesson in courage. May I live as well and as long as he did.

Excellent tribute, Karla! Yes, I too respect and admire him as one of history's greatest Popes; a man of great character, courage and leadership ability. His efforts have affected billions in their quests for better moral guidance, freedom and better life quality. May God bless him, mankind and Author's Den members all!
Peace is a commodity that the Pope marketed so well to the world. Had they bought it, we would have been in a better world now. A well deserved tribute, Karla.

Having grown up in the Greater Chicago Archdiocese of the city of Chicago, I can tell you that he has meant a great deal to the Polish Catholics who have lived in the city. A well done piece, Karla, about a man who took the time to finally apologized to Jews, condemned "Christian" wars and would not back down from his convictions about the right to being human. He will be missed mostly because few of his kind seem to be there for the rest of us anymore.

I think Andy is right we all sort of know him and you know this is the way it should be that he be in his home the Vatican and not a hospital. Once the fever hits as high as it did his body just shuts down. And he leaves quietly and yes cured of any sickness and made whole again. I think he was a great man indeed.
You don't have to be a Catholic to stand in awe of such a great man. He is an example of a life fully lived to the glory of God. Beautiful write Karla. Blessings, Michelle

You beauty. I went to midday mass today, friday.
You poem really does say it all.
He has done so much to keep the world stable.
He'll go down in history as one of the greats.
In his dieing, he shows what a man of God he is.
The lord has used him, to show us how to live, be in sickness, and how to move on.

I am not catholic, nor much of anything else, but I know this; Pope John Paul II will be a difficult man to replace. He was truly a man of the people. Pray for him? Yes, if we must, but his actions and deeds far excell our puny little prayers. He will, if theere is heavenly justice, be seated next to the Almighty in a place of dignified honor.
He touched the world in a way that will be felt for a very long time to come! He was a man of true courage and strength in trying circumstances! God bless him, God bless his friends, and God bless those who follow him through his many triumphs and trials! Beautiful, heartfelt tribute; I will most certainly add my prayers for him tonight!
