I really wanted not to write another Katrina poem, believe me. I was going to write something positive.
However, there's an even bigger storm on the horizon, one that will devastate ALL of us unless we learn to stop trying to lay blame on what/who caused the horrors we've witness lately. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Can't we work together instead of dividing this nation further?
The anger swirling around may be a much more destructive force than the hurricane ever was.
Clearly, tragic mistakes were made on all levels, but this is where it's gotta end:
People, no matter their color or how high they are on the social ladder, are caught in the flood of suffering.
Who gives a flip if they are black/ white/red/yellow/brown? "What" they are isn't important, anyway.
They are our brothers and sisters, and all I know is, they need our help; you can't rebuild on bitching and blaming.
Are we going to drown in a whirlpool of poisonous hatred? I, for one, refuse to get stuck in the middle of all of that.
There's too much of that, anyway...it's time we grow up and start doing something positive instead of tearing things down.
The storm did not discriminate. And we don't need to play that card: it's a gamble the survivors can't afford.

Your president took a brave step. Not all leaders would admit they made a mistake. I agree the blame game must end immediately. Help is needed. Excellent write.
Right on write Karla and so true, now is the time to regroup and rejoice that above all the cries and anguish there are so many out there who care and are trying to help
Powerful message....thank God I am not a leader at this point...or the one behind the problems...all I know GOD had send this hurricane for a reason!!

Rant on, Karla, but I fear you are speaking to unfeeling people. There is such hatred in this country that I truly fear for her welfare. That is one of the reasons I wrote "fairy!: A Cautionary Tale."

Imogene, a country-bred girl, longs to make a life for herself in New York City. She joins forces with her former college roommate to start a movie production company in the big city.
