EIGHT MONTHS after Katrina/Rita, parts of the Gulf Coast lies in ruins, except in certain areas...not where the real people live, that's for sure. A shame!
Got this one after talking to Mary Lynn Plaisance; she said that areas east of her and south of New Orleans proper (including Mississippi and Alabama) are in shambles.
And another hurricane season rapidly approaches.....
Y'all come outside with eyes wide open and see what I'm seeing. Debris still litters the shattered streets; people are still needin' a place to live; bills still comin' in, demandin' to be paid - no jobs, no money, but who gives a shit? Get out from behind your desks of unreality and tell us what we're supposed to do. They're sayin' this hurricane season is gonna be as bad as last year's was: we're still tryin' to hold our heads above the waters of red tape and bullshit from last year. Where's the help you promised would be comin'? We ain't seein' it except in certain places ... y'all come outside with eyes wide open and get where the real people are.
Having just been there - yet again - I could not believe how little has been done as far as clean up and restoration goes. Although I went there to help animals, my heart truly broke talking to several people who have returned - who can't seem to get help from anyone - especially our government - who promised them so much - and who has truly failed to deliver.
Truly a Damned Shame - and as you say, before we know it, a new hurricane season will be upon them.

Look, what is happening down here is the same old same old Louisiana politics. Since day one we have been crying about "help." When money IS sent somehow it disappears where it always does, into the pockets of corrupt politicans or siphoned off for their other pet projects. We have seen college kids come down here on their spring break to try and help clean up some of the area, but when they show them cleaning it up you never see the residents helping them. They are content to sit back and watch as though they are owed this generosity. Now when it comes to the federal government I am not letting them off the hook either, I have to agree with Eileen about that shambles in Washington.
Politicians of all types make up our government, and none of them seem to give a rats ass about what is happening to our world. I'd like to do a clean sweep of both houses of congress the entire administration the pentagon and start from scratch! It has become a stagnant cesspool where everything is mired down! Rant on Karla!
