Windy out there. At least, no fire ... say a prayer for those in California who are suffering from wind and flame.

Poem Artwork

... stood outside this blustery morn,
taking in Autumn's refreshment
(as well as a cup of hot tea),
watching the birds trying to make

progress against the breeze; they were
staggering drunkenly on the
everchanging currents blowing
from the North.  Leaves were being pulled

off faster than they could fall from
the trees, before they were ready
to die.  Butterflies were getting
more exercise than expected

as they tried to light on flowers
bent sideways to the ground; the stray
cat that hangs 'round the neighborhood
had hours of practice pouncing on

whatever blew by its eager,
twitching paws ... let's just say a prayer
for those in California who
are suffering with wind and flame ...

Staring at nature and having a cup of tea--what a great way to start the day. As you mention the fire in California, you remind us to say a prayer. Also reason enough to give thanks for the simple little pleasures in our lives such as watching the falling leaves.

Oh boy, does America get hit or what! All those poor folk, we've been hit by floods after three years of drought, and CA is a tinder box, I hope Tiggs etc are all safe. In our hurricane of 20 years ago there was a cat floating in the air, and I had to stop my car to let someones garden shed cross the road. I guess rain is the thing to pray for. Hope the song is wrong. That it never rains in CA...

That's a pretty brisque breeze. Could feel it through your words.

Yes, we need to pray for those who have been displaced and those who are fighting the fire. Thank you for this reminder to us, all.

I just hear from friend living in Palo Alto (now evacuees) and all is well, they home didn't burn (yet) and they hope for rain.
Brothers Marines from San Diego Naval Base had been giving a helping hand to those suffering Firemen, God Bless.

Oh! You said suffering from the winds of flames
I Thought you said "Fame"
Yes those California winds appear
every year
Just like Clock work, Yet they always manage to rebuilt
I would have moved out of there.
Enjoyed your Write Kalar
Thank You for sharing

Wonderful compassionate poem Karla, and if you've never been hit by a santa ana wind you can't imagine the force and feel of it. I've shed enough tears to put out osme of the fires. It is heartbreaking to see
so many homeless! To see the flames covering whole towns in one place the size of N.Y. City! Hard to believe! Thanks for the caring!

Love,
Eileen

Good write. I live in a lush green-belt in the Santa Monica Mountains off Topanga Canyon surrounded by giant Pine and Eucalpytus trees. We have been lucky this year although I can't say the same for those one canyon over just up the road and still we keep a watchful eye. Much of this has to do with the Feds lack of proper land management as well as new construction in areas that have been fire zones for thousands of years. Our fire here was the result of the winds knocking dow a power line. However, the Orange County and Snd Diego fire were set by arsonists. They'll be caught...they always are. Anyway, we are a resilient breed love the beauty, solitude, choices, and opportunity this place has to offer. People here, like nowhere else, truly band together to support and help each other in the face of any crisis. Life is more important than things and those who lost their homes will rebuild. Let's just pray that no more lives are lost.

Dear Karla,

Wonderful example of how much fun breezes can be. When mixed with fire it is devastating. Prayers must be said for all those in danger. You have written this very well, Karla.

Kathy

Well penned Karla. Those in CA need our prayers. May God watch over them in their time of need.

Wonderful write, Karla; very well written! Yes. It definitely could be worse; we could be having those fires on top of the blustery conditions. Not good! God be with those out in Cali! They are indeed in my prayers and thoughts!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :(

Karla you are so very eloquent.

You see with the eye of a person with very much awareness. That is the very thing that sets poets apart from, (God, I hate to use this word)..."Ordinary" people. Be that as is may there is something special within you that many of us share. May your flame of awareness never be extinguished.......Love,

Walt
