... then came Katrina, the plastic surgeon that peeled the face off of Louisiana. Was needing a change, but don't you think this was a bit ... drastic? Any beauty there was gone with one slice of the wind. Patient survived, barely. The scars are still evident, two years later ... she sings jazzy tunes, wanting to invite the people to come back to the City, so she can remember what it was to be ... normal.

I can't even begin to imagine how folks are coping after all this time, and so little has moved forward to helping this city return to normal. Hopefully, "normal" will return for these people.
Mother nature has her ways, God help you if she stares you down her path!
Sadly, many suffer in her way, and unfortunately it happened in an area that was already suffering, outside the songs sung from a heartfilled people...if anyone would survive, it WILL be them!

Heartbreaking reality of what happened to the Gulf Coast States, particularly Louisiana, during Katrina--and afterwards. To compare the hurricane to a surgeon and New Orleans as a wounded casualty is chilling. Very well penned, Karla; brava!

I loved New Orleans when I lived there. If I were to visit now I know it would break my heart. I still don't know what happened to some of my former employees. Nature was very cruel then and still can be a terrorist in it's own way. The worst part is not really knowing the outcome until it's too late.
