If you believe ugly words they have won and poured their ugliness into you. If you give it in prayer to God then you have won and turned the ugly words into a prayer of praise. I know what you will do.

...and Karla...ugly is not you...what was heard was ugly...and that is not your reflection...but very well anothers of their self. We all...have those dark places within...but you of all people have penned the beauty of both...in all of its nature...as night is to day...there is always light of self...just see if one can ever take that away from you...they can not...for God has yet given us eyes...to know beauty...our secret.

I think we all have some form of 'tape' that runs through our head at one time or another - the crappy ones, that is. Words do h u r t! It is hard not to believe them, when you've heard them so often. Try doing what I do - count my blessings, thank God for helping me learn a new coping skill, and ask Him to turn off the dang 'machine.' AND remember that you are one of God's wonderful creations. You are beautiful to Him. You are beautiful to me.

Karla, this makes me flush red with hot anger... I know these feelings so well and they are all damnable lies. I have listened to them since I was a tiny tot, and yeah, they stick all right, coming back to wound us when we are sick of every "flaw" in sight. I am so sorry for your real pain. But listen to the words of truth - you are NEVER ugly... ugliness is an aura that affects even the most beautiful of people. We can all assume ugliness at any point when our face becomes clouded by what we see and feel about ourselves or others. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL - HEAR IT. I have seen the most twisted bodies radiant with the purest beauty I will ever, ever see... and I have seen absolute divas look like shite. It's sooooooo true that the essence of beauty is internal - and you are MASSIVELY blessed with a purity of spirit in this respect. We can talk at you til the cows come home, but the only one who is going to give you what you need to see in the mirror this evening... is you. GO DO IT! Karla, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and some only look at the outside of a box. It's when you open the box and look inside that the beauty shows. All who know you on AD have seen what's inside the box, and it is beautiful.

i can understand where you come from, i am my own worst critic.

It is hard to see yourself as beautiful when you've been told you were ugly all your life. Trust me, I know. I feel the same way myself; yet God loves us, no matter whether we are old, young, sick, well, disabled/able bodied, a good singer or a good writer, a factory worker, a dishwasher, or a high-powered attourney. We all have worth to God, and He loves us no matter what we are or what we are going through in life.
