Juliet Waldron's brilliant 'The Last Field' inspired these lines: thank you.

What kind of legacy are we leaving behind?

... pressed under the weight
of sky as it shatters on the
pavement of another parking
lot.  trees used to stall its
forward progress, but gravity
accelerates it all the way to
ground:  i am crushed when a
little one asks, "what are trees?"

two of the most destructive forces on the environment of our great land in my humble opinion have been the Army Corps of Engineers and developers -- you raise awareness for a most important cause -- our environment - it is unfortunate that most of the current crop of those politicos espousing a desire to save our environment are simply after the financial gains they envision - not the salvation of our beautiful land -- peace and love to you my friend -- JMW

Hello Karla,

"I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree." But sadly today: I think that I shall never see ...a tree....just a poem about it. Excellent.

Thank-you, Karla--another rare beauty--and your pictures are just incredible knockouts, too! Yes, the sky pressing down, like stones piled onto your chest. Changes since I've been a kid are saddening. The places in CT where I wrote all my cornfield poems are now interred beneath houses. What the heck are we thinking, here? Where's the food for the next seven generations going to grow?

Not only are you phenominal to write such heartfelt words as these, but you are definitely one of the others. Your writings encourage those of us who still in live in the shadows of our existence. What are trees indeed. Well if a tree can grow in Brooklyn, then a tree can grow anywhere, and with mighty strength have the courage to face life no matter how difficult it can get. And with its blossoms in the spring, bring it to life. The ending of this poem is a sad one, because children should know about this great earth that we live on. And they should know that a girl is like a blossoming tree. Thank yo for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Sigh . . . Trees will be here forever, or at least until we discover how to breathe without them . . . Trees clean the air we breathe by taking in carbon dioxide through the leaves and then giving off oxygen we need to breathe. If trees didn't breathe, neither could we . . . That, in itself will guarantee that we will have trees forever . .
