the trials of poetry
f.old me like a piece of scrap
paper, tosses me into
the trash: another written,
reworked so many times i
forget the original.
getting harder to straighten
the wrinkles out and erase
the marks of jealousy i've
slashed across the words in red
until all that's left is 'what
could have been.' and yet, i keep
trying, hoping to get it
right. maybe next time. guess the
moral of the story is:
never give a critic's pen
to a perfectionist. they're
tougher on themselves than most ...
attempting to create anything is fraught with obstacles -- meaning what we and saying what we mean is a road never paved with smooth macadam -- frustration is a part of the rewards for our craft Karla -- keep plugging away, it will all come together again -- peace and love my dear friend -- Jon Michael
Karla,
Know well the effort and the doubts and I ask 'now was it worth all that time and sweat?'...if the feelings are where you want them to be, then it works.
I tpp agree with Jerry, you do such fine work karla, you have reached a place where you no longer have to question yourself.perfectionists don't belong in poetry!
Dear Karla--so true , but save that trash, because what doesn't work in one poem might in another. I never throw anything out and find myself using stuff that's 20 years old in something I write today--recycle, my friend lol. BTW--this is a great little poem!!
Yes! They are! I see the trash piling up and there's evidence of a poem being birthed. Keep trying. Your Muse is toying with you it seems.
Blessings and love,
Susan
Boy, do I hear you. I think that it why I'd not posted anything on the Den in over a year. Thankfully my 'critic' has left the building! I trust yours is leaving as well. LOL
Ah, Karla, the joys of cutting and pasting. I so remember the thousands of sheets of paper I pulled form my old Royal typewriter and the bottles of "White-Out" that I purchased that I was never able to unnoticeably strike over.
Very well chosen words, Karla.

Hey, Karla!
Striking image with this, my friend. Anyone who can even produce over 2,000 works beholds Pearls of Hidden Treasure, impeccable.
And, no, truly I did not step off the far edge. Just dancing in some other arenas.

I know this feeling all too well. Just gotta' turn it over, as they say. Remember, any poem is "perfect" so long as it is emotionally true. I wrote a poem about that on AD. I agree with Cindy, you needn't worry.
I kind of know where you're coming from because I'm the same way when it comes to my stories. Don't ever give up on your writing; your words are needed here, as are you. Well penned and illustrated; brava!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :(
