The weathermen could see it in
the models days ago, put out the
word to stay alert ---- things could
get bad. They did their job. They
were out there, the warnings ----
sometimes twenty minutes in
advance. People aren't paying
attention or seeking shelter for
one reason or another and now
look: over 500 dead, and the
storms keep coming, monsters
roaring through populated areas
or striking in the middle of the
night. Why underground shelter
should be mandatory in Tornado
and Dixie Alleys. How much more
must we lose before something
is done? My heart is broken.

Karla, My heart is also broken and I pray each day for God to just give enough warning for those to get to safety and then so many just don't do it. These are not ordianry tornadoes, their vicious, powerful, unstoppable and have come as far as PA, NY and New England. All we can do is pray for the survivors now. Thanks for this, Karla--it needed to be said.
I think something needs to be done about storm shelters we have regulations for Earthquakes here in California, the same should be true for storm shelters in tornadoe country! I continue to pray for all who suffered through these storms and I pray for you and Karen

Sad to say that in most cases it comes down to the dollar, storm shelters could be build, higher flood walls made, safer ships built, better fire control equipmemt made and supplied but the simple truth is....who will pay for it.
The government won't for if they did they would have to raise taxes and nobody wants a tax increase. The contractors won't because they would either have to swallow a loss or raise their prices. The homeowners who are trying to build their own houses won't because everything costs so much that they need every penny elsewhere. So it all comes back to the dollar and how much we are willing to pay in order to be safe.

Karla, it makes you wonder if this is not symptomatic of the warp speed pace of life today. People running red lights, driving twenty miles per hour over the speed limit and more. Rush rush rush and all the while ignoring the signs of danger all around them as well as the advance warnings from the weather folks. In the final analysis we are all responsible for our own safety and accountability. Your photo sure is foreboding. Stirring angrily and store with immense power.
