Always treasuring my time with my oldest grandson, he turned 15 and for his birthday we went to the ocean. This was our trip home.
My Grandson and Me
It wasn’t so long ago, or at least so it seems,
You hid behind your mama’s knees, fearful I was mean.
Peeking from your safe haven, curiosity won out
You ventured forth, daring yourself, still filled with doubt.
You figured me out, of that I’m sure, and soon you had me wrapped.
Blended families are self-made and we learn to adapt.
In my heart I prepared a room where you came and stayed.
The years pass and lives change yet my love has never swayed.
So do you want to go fish or play in the sea?
Just one more roller coaster or water park to see.
A long drive home, wishing the miles were years.
Arguing over the radio, blaring in my ears
We laugh and pout, goad and tease
Our time is precious and I’m showing my greed.
Memories are our greatest gift
Though relationships may shift.
And I realize on this latest trip home
Far too soon you will be grown
Two hundred miles to go, it seems too near.
Just one more day, my wish is sincere
So we can make another memory
Just my grandson and me.
Raelynn, this is so beautiful that I am sure your grandson will love, the time we spend with them is so precious, for one day they will share their heats and love with some other lady and we will be put on the back burner. Our memories will always be fresh in our minds. Gotta love them. Thank you for sharing with us.
Ahhhh this is special Raelyn for your love for your grandson shines through like a ray of sunshine, and you are so right. As we struggled through raising our own kids time often seemed like forever caught up on the financial, emotional, physical etc stresses of raisisng children but now that we are older and the stresses reduced our age reminds us that yes soon our grand children will grow up.
