Poem Artwork

I should be flying to somewhere,
Anywhere far away from here.
Distance or time in flight I don't care,
Sometimes life just isn't fair.
God he gave to me no wings,
Just arms I can flap all I want,
And still won't be flying.
How grateful is the bird that sings,
Because it has a pair of wings.

Walt

Wow! Jeanette and I have the same dreams...I too find myself in wide open fields, running and flapping...and then, finally I feel the weightlessness and the freedom of soaring through the skies...
Your poem brought a few favorite sayings, from my mothers, to mind...

"If you can't make it here, you can't make it anywhere..."
or, to "run away, is to be followed", and, "to stick it out, is to trip and fall, only to get up and try, try, again!"
but..."Flying" is a good remedy while your at it! :)
Enjoyed~
Love and Peace~

A lovely wishful poem. I have used my flapping hands and arms to fly--in dreams--and it was wonderful. There's nothing like that weighless feeling of sailing through the air. It also gave me a sense of power. Nothing like it! I wish...

Walt with the wings of your poetry you are already flying and soaring higher than birds and aeroplanes. Wonderful poem. Man has had dreams to fly before he actually invented the aircrafts

It's not fair. I can fly the skies; I can fly from top to top of each building, but I can not build; I have no hands--just wings and claws. And man is down there ringing bells, because he has two hands that build. --The meadow lark

Flying for me would be the tree top flyers that I got used to getting around in a while back. Boy! What a thrill old Sierra Lima was a few years back. Sure do miss that Aero Commander.

An outstanding poetic piece Walt
Now that picture you chosen
is great a real symbol of a great city
Getting home sick for a place I no longer wish to be
For I've done my time "In Hell"

I feel that way sometimes too Walt. Lovely poem. Our wings are not physical and they take us places the birds can't go.

A moving write my friend, touching as well. I think we have all felt this way at times...years ago I recall writing a poem, simply titled wings...I often imagined myself sailing through the air with no worries, no cares...just gliding along with peace. Soon the troubled waters calmed and life seemed to resume as it had, and I passed the simple poem onto a friend whose turn it was to walk through the fires of life...hang in there! Great write!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Walt, You can fly, I do it all the time..The thing is, you can't do it for escape, you must do it for growth, and adventure, and lightness.

Yes Walt I have to agree, there are times I too wish I could fly. I always say we had to crawl before we could walk and gain confidence to run and yes one day I will be free as I fly with the Angels, until then I'll be happy with those two arms. Thank you for sharing Walt.

At least you have a car (I think!); I don't! I have to walk everywhere--on CRUTCHES, yet! Oh, well: it could be worse; have to learn to look at the blessings that God gives and has given me. Excellent pen, Walt; very well done!

Brooklyn Bridge is not a take-off place to go flying, only heart broken lovers do that in a foggy day, when you get a pair of wings you should go to launch yourself from the torch that the Lady is holding and soar over Manhattan...
My God!!! it sounds like a 20's speakeasy kind of jazz.
