Will you be remembered as a total giver. Or someone who gave, but was also a doer
As time goes on we strive to please,
Sometimes forgetting our own needs.
The person we are begins to smother.
Lovingly wanting to please another,
Who we were not quite remembered,
Our own life becomes dismembered.
Who am I?
Who was I before?
It’s been so long,
I don’t remember.
Are we defined by our view of ourselves
What if we don’t remember who we were to begin with?
Our dreams and aspirations have become blurred.
Pray we find our self again before that time,
That we lie on our bed at the end.
Have I lived my life for me,
Or to please everyone else,
Did my life I spend?
Walt, well said. The challenge is to do what we believe is right for ourselves and yet does not adversely affect others. A delicate balance that sometimes creates a little agro in our lives. May peace and love be always with my dear friend. Jon Michael
...did you spend your life or get it spent on, which is better or worse for that matter...I tend to think no matter how we have spent life, then thats how we spent life, can't change it, so why worry about the past or future, just deal with life today...(now if only I could take my own advice...)

We have only one life to spend. And it is not wasted only on our youth. We have a choice how we spend it. I would suggest, like your poem, that we spend it well.
