They are at it again, Fisheries dept. in it's unfathomable wisdom allowed again, four hundred thousand little creatures to be slaughtered,,, you can take it from here, say something, anything, whatever do something, do it again, I know it's tiresome, I know, bless ya.

The great white hunter of the north,
Brave and daring,
With hakepik goes forth,
To plunder mothers caring,

To kill the baby monster white,
Innocent still on this earth,
Bludgeons it with great delight,
With mother near that gave it birth,

A gun he has, but loathe he is to use it,
It safes bullets and apparently the pelt,
Instead, blows to the head, with hakepik,
No matter how the pain it felt,

Some skin these monsters still alive,
These creatures of the farthest north,
So that the cod fish can survive,
These daring hunters do go forth,

This the story that I’ve heard,
From Fisheries Dept. often told,
I know for sure it sounds absurd,
But lies of politics are bold,

Tradition, tradition, is the song they sing,
Although no one now wears fur,
They go about it carolling,
False sentiments they stir,

No matter all the writings and petitions,
From Canadians strong and free,
Send to their arrogant politicians,
From sea to shiny sea,

Not only that, taxes due, include such blunder,
All this costs us more and more,
One truly has to wonder,
Where do they all, these seal pelts store?©21/03/2012

I said to Mr. Ed on this same topic. It is time to organize a boycott Canadian Cod. Easy pitch to sell using just one photo and money talks like no other remedy. Patrick

...to be bludgeoned to death is never acceptable

to die naturally or be eaten by a predator
i can understand even if i don't like it
but deliberate killing by people...no

Jasmin, you know how much i admire what you write
and expose

Funny, but we are so worried about the starving polar bears who eat thousands of these young pups every year, unseen. The seal population can take the hit, as long as the hunt is controlled and things don't get out of balance. I don't think the cod population has anything to do with it, except that it is overfished, not by seals, but by men.

What the issue is, is that people are appalled when they see men bloody bludgeoning helpless little white furry creatures. That's what it's all about. Sympathy for the young, not overharvesting.

"No matter all the writings and petitions"

This sounds so sadly and so horribly familiar in both of our nations today, my friend. Those in power today seem to have lost their souls, and all they apparently see is the money they receive from those intent on killing just about everything left on this planet - from seals and sea lions to wild horses and wolves. And most petitions today fall on deaf ears and blind eyes.

I would have to say that until the politicians DON'T get money back from the sale of all those pelts, nothing will ever get done about it...e
