An old love, that was a stumbling block, till this moment....
"Making Life A Bit Easier"

An old love contacted me today,
I could have chosen not to respond,
but, I could not reject his request.
He asked me to help him.
My first reaction was to run,
but then I reconsidered some.
I answered his email
with compassion and concern,
and then things took a strange turn.
I didn't feel the longing or the need
to rekindle that love that we had.
This is progress, indeed!
We are human beings trying to live
a life among others,
so what is the harm in wanting to give
just a little more of yourself
to make another's life
just a bit easier!
author's notes:
This was a man that hurt me deeply, and I could not turn my back on him. I have realized, however, that I no longer need to long or pine over him..A good realization indeed!

P.s. At my mOm's funeral serv. My brother spoke, I was going to read my poem, but as Jeff spoke and tears started to flow,(speaking from his heart and not from what he wrote) I then spoke into the podium, with my arms around Jeff's neck, and then Pat spoke and did the same. It was the #3 of up there, speaking from 0ur hearts to our mom's spirit! it was deep and well needed, this reminded me of how we react or NOT!

It sounds like to me he is the one who has lost now.
Great that your staying strong Amber.
One can love someone without needing them.
This captures it. I couldn't help but think
about the Zen teachings of compassion and love.
Oh and that pic Loved it!
Amber, a truly beautiful painting, and the poem allows the reader to realize a heart can heal and not desire the love they once shared their life with. A nice writing!!!
I too have been in that same situation and like you after years of wondering what if, when I walked away after being civil to someone who once had almost destroyed me...I was smiling from ear to ear. No one goes through love and life unscathed and I realized I was stronger because of knowing her and losing her. STrange world indeed.
