“When The Eagle Soars Above The Mountain”

(Karena Eagle Medicine Woman Series)

By Amber “V” Moonstone

3/15/08

The Sun rose,

 As the warm breeze

 filled my senses.

This is to be a very special day.

A day of awakening,

The dawn of a new life.

The children are still asleep

As I kiss their closed lids.

Nothing seems the same

Only my own skin

And the scent of the morning dew.

Standing Bear is away,

On a warpath,

I can no longer dwell

 Among his people.

They live for the blood

 of the white man.

He has been a good father

To my children, but he

Has hatred and war

In his heart.

He says the white man

Must be killed,

To honor the spirit

 of his dead people !

Somewhere in time,

I lost you,

You have gone to dwell

Among the spirits of the elders.

Your memory brings

a  smile to my lips

and a symphony within

the beats of my heart.

I long to be near you once more,

To feel your embrace,

And to touch your soul with mine.

Some how, when the Eagle soars

 Above the tallest mountain,

And the sun sets for the very last time

Our spirits will finally be re-united.

Then I will know that I have come home.

Until That day,

I shall remain

 on this steadfast journey

Of healing and freedom

 for our people.

I call my Eagle spirit guide,

To protect me on this journey,

To help me rise above all this violence

And, to find peace, and love

Within my soul once more.

I have packed all our belongings,

And will leave this village

moving quickly toward the North

To find our lost tribe

And remain there until

The Eagle Soars Above the highest Mountain.

Author’s Notes:  April, 1610, Karena and children leave Standing Bear’s village, to escape before the war party returns.

Peace, love, and light, Amber "V" Moonstone

You paint a beautiful, haunting portrait of a slice of human condition --- hope that deep love split by irreconcilable differences may one day be rejoined.
Best regards,
Leland

Strong feelings as native women try to cope and understand the need for their men to have revenge...like men of all races seem to need in order to find closure.
