"A Dream Toward Re-Uniting"

Trembling from the dream,
I rose from my deer skin slumber,
Unable to decifer between dream or reality
My mind and body were at war
wanting it to be reality, knowing it a dream.

Tumas is still alive,
I feel it in my soul,
I must find him before the next full moon.
The Great Spirit is sending me a message.
I must go and seek guidance from the Chief.

As I watched the sun rise on this fall day,
I knew I would leave my children
and embark on a journey to find Tumas.
I have never been so clear in all my life.
I must accept this message and go with it.

Chief Powhatan spoke words of wisdom,
and to my surprise allowed two of his
finest braves to escort me on my journey.
Princess Pocahontas and the other women
promised to protect and care for my children

It truly is a blessing to have such a family
especially now that I leave to find Tumas.
I know not where to search,
but know that the spirit of the elders will
guide us toward a safe return with Tumas.

That afternoon, Red Arrow and Big Sky,
set out with me to seek clues to find Tumas.
It was on the third day of our wandering,
that we entered a white man's town.
They were open and willing to speak with us

After a meal and many questions,
we were able to develop a plan.
We made our way just outside the town
toward a river bed that had a shallow area
where we could cross to the other side.

As we approached the opposite shore,
I saw what appeared to be a longhouse.
Outside there was a white woman working
she was bent over and tending her garden
Just at that moment a man approached her.

I blinked a few times to adjust my vision
It was my Tumas, but he looked so different
My heart began to cry
I wanted to rush to him, but his embrace
of this white woman, stopped me.

What is this I see?
This cannot be,
My Tumas in the arms of another!
Red Arrow grabbed my arm drawing me back
"No, Karena, we must be careful"

Big Sky nodded to us to go back.
I was not leaving until I spoke to Tumas.
Red Arrow said to me in a very tender tone,
"Karena, he is not the same man,
He has become a white man, We must go!"

I was paralyzed with grief,
I have found him, but he is gone to us.
"Red Arrow, You must speak with him, please"
He demanded that I stay with Big Sky
while he went to speak to Tumas.

I watched the confrontation between them,
My heart was pounding from excitement
there was something really wrong here
but something also really right.
Red Arrow returned with a look of sadness.

"What is it Red Arrow?, What says he?"
"Karena, Tumas does not know you
he says he is married to that woman,
He does not remember you."
I fell to the earth and wept.

I know in my heart and soul
that man is Tumas.
"I shall leave for now, but I will return"
and the three turned and crossed the river
on their journey toward home.
