Discovery Of a Kidnapping (Karena Series)

Silently Karena crept into the village,
her heart pounding from excitement,
she was trying to find information
about the white man's plans.

The men were gathered in the church,
discussing their plans,
Karena kept hidden as she listened.
"We must get to the Chief,

He loves his daughter and we
can get a fine ranson for her return.
Who wants to volunteer to capture
Pocahontas?"

Karena couldn't believe her ears,
Pocahontas was to be a target.
She must go warn her people.
The white man will not win.

She dashed off into the cold night air,
running as quickly
as her feet could carry her
She must return home immeditately.

The sun was peaking through
the dewy morning sky,
As Karena walked into her dwelling.
Her children were fast asleep.

Pride and love radiated throughout her body as she watched her children sleep.
"Sleep well, little ones,
I shall return to wake you up".

Karena requested counsel with the Chief,
He was meditating and burning sage,
 the aroma filled the air
with a natural fragrance of peace.

It was not allowed to disturb the Chief
during his meditations,
so Karena sat outside his dwelling
until he was finished.

The smell from the sage and the
sound of his chanting
hypnotized her into a dreamlike state,
she saw the White Buffalo,

He was magnificent, and running wild,
across the fields sending healing messages
and signals to Karena
to move forward with her healing.

"My child, You have been chosen,
You must continue your healing,
you posess wisdom and knowledge
that will be favorable to your people"

The White Buffalo was surrounded by
a White light that radiated truth and love,
A vision that inspired fortitude and peace
to dwell within Karena's soul.

"I shall make you proud,
I will follow your Wisdom,
I will become wiser, kinder,
and the healer that I was destined to be!"

Chief Powhatan was looking down
at Karena with wonderment.
"You have returned, what have you found
to be the truth, Karena?"

"Chief, You startled me,
I was just speaking with the White Buffalo,
He has given me his blessings.
I must tell you what I have discovered.

The White Man is planning an attack,
they are to capture your daughter,
and then ransom her for crops, more land,
and information for curing tobacco.

The English are pressured to make a profit
by their mother land,
they must succeed or will have to be branded as failures and return to England.

Pocahontas is in danger, we must
protect her by sending her away
to another village where she is unknown.
Please Chief, I beg of you to listen to me.

She will be coming of age,
Surely there is a warrior that can have her
as his wife.
We must proceed with a plan of our own.

Karena, I truly believe in you,
I know of attempts to capture her
in the past.
I have stopped all of them.

I can see that the English are getting desperate to make a life here,
but they have no clue how to live in harmony and peace with  Mother Earth and the Powhatan Nation.

The Elders have decided to go with my plan,
We are to stop all trading and negotiating
with the English.
We will starve them back to their Mother land.

"Go in peace and harmony, my dear woman,
tend to your children,
heal our sick and weary,
and know that the Great Spirit looks after all of us. Peace and love, dear Karena."
