A bit of historical facts: It was during Percy's tenure that the colony suffered through the "Starving Time" in the winter of 1609-10. "Now all of us at James Town beginning to feel that sharp prick of hunger, which no man truly describe but he which hath tasted the bitterness thereof," he recounted later.[2] Percy accomplished little while President, other than to order the construction of Fort Algernon at Old Point Comfort.

Tumas's Meeting with George Percy by Amber "V" Moonstone 2/15/09 Tumas spoke sternly to Percy, He warned him that Powhatan means to drive them back to their Motherland if they do not agree on peace. The English conditions were even worse since last he was within the confines of Jamestown Settlement. George Percy was even paler. "Tumas, I have news of Captain West, He has abandoned his fort called The Falls, and he has gone on his ship to find supplies. John Smith was injured and sent back to England with the Captain. I understand the need for peace, but we are a dying township and we cannot survive another winter here without help" Tumas thought for a moment, and then said, "Chief Percy, Your people have come here, have stolen our land, have raped and killed our women and men, have taken away our food supply without replenshing it, and you now stand here begging me to help you and your people. Why should I help you? You must go back to your Motherland, It is the only solution for your survival." "No, we will not give up, Tumas, we will find a way to live with your people in peace, just like your Chief requests. Let me call a counsel of our people together, please stay the night and be a part of our meeting." "I do not trust your white men, I will return upon day break and then we will talk once again, but I promise you, there is no time to waste, the Powhatan warriors are ready." Tumas rode off into the woods, to find shelter for the night. Something was not right, there was treachery in the air. I will find the truth, and warn my people. The fourth stanza speaks much truth ... heartbreakingly so. An excellent write of a sad time in history ... as I've often heard, those that forget history are condemned to repeat it. And it continues.
