Inspiration comes from many places. A dear friend's granddaughter is suffering from anorexia. She says she wants to be perfect..I channeled her today...

 Perfection

by Amber "V" Moonstone
1/30/15

Whiteness blurs the darkness,
Surrounding my mind with thoughts
of hurried emotions, trembling within
only to feel nothing.

Emptiness surrounds my soul,
hungry to find answers
to make sense of this numbness
that dwells within.

Longing for relief,
daydreaming is the only solace,
wandering past stolen moments,
that once felt comfortable.

A thief has taken my soul,
stolen the best part of me,
I hunger for nourishment,
but cannot feed among the living.

I want to eat, but cannot find the will,
I listen to the voices in my head,
they are destroying my soul,
I cannot bear to open my eyes.

Fear and shame fills me,
I cannot comprehend what I have done,
to my family, my friends, my body.
I struggle to stay alive every moment.

I wanted to be perfect,
I tried to be perfect,
I cannot do it any longer,
I accept that I am not perfect!

none is perfect, and that is what makes us the beautiful diversity of humanity. she are perfect enough just as she iscreated to be. Time is the enemy but hopefully she will finde the will and strength to fill the emptiness. this poem touched my heart.

My heart bleeds for all the pressures our young people have to contend with in the world we have created where we are fed and believe lies about who we are and what we are supposed to live up to. Bless you for your compassion, Amber. May this young lady come to know and love herself for the unique and wonderful person that she already is. And overcome the sense of being overwhelmed by forces she fears are beyond her control. xx

Sadly perfection is not what we see in the mirror.
It is what is inside us that makes us strive for it, never to achieve that which we seek so vehemently.
But,"cannot feed among the living."
Sounds a bit like a Zombie to me. :-)

Yes, our society needs to teach self-compassion to all, and to young girls especially, so there is internal support in a culture of perfectionism and false appearances. I have a niece with this and it breaks my heart. Blessings dear Amber,

Wow! Very touching and compelling poetry Amber! It brings back memories of people who have battled with anorexia in the past. Most have not survived. It's kind of ironic that this occurs in a society where so many folks struggle with keeping off just a few pounds. There was a lady in our church who modeled a t-shirt for the youth to help promote a fund raiser. She was overweight but her smile made her appear just perfect for the job. The result - after church almost all the shirts sold out! WAKE UP America! Beauty is definitely only skin deep! Thank You for this write...

This is such a heartfelt and deep poem. You must know that there is no such thing as "Perfection". No matter how good a person you are there's bound to be someone who dislike you and criticize you. Don't be too hard on yourself. You only have to answer to God, and no one else. Don't live your life for others, live it for yourself!! You are the only one who can make yourself happy. Make no excuses for being you!

I don't think it's perfection that creates this phenomenon. There is an imperfection in some people's psyche that allows this to happen. That lets all addictions to happen. I understand that some have been able to overcome their anorexia. I certainly hope that this young lady can have that happen to her.

Nicely-done, but sadly, most who suffer won't get to your wonderful conclusion - "I cannot do it any longer / I accept that I am not perfect!" Most who are afflicted... simply stay that way and never admit they have a problem - here's hoping for a revolution!

The relief of pressure to realize your not perfect
can open the doors for so much more. Wonderful poem Amber!

"wandering past stolen moments,
that once felt comfortable"
Those lines have such an impact Amber.
Acceptance... perfection, both often times elusive. Accepting our imperfections? A never ending battle. Thanks for channeling that.

So sad that young women feel these pressures to be perfect....
I hope she gets help and becomes well...
You have summed this up well with your perceptive words Amber...

You managed to delve within her thoughts and say what she might say, or think what she might think. I enjoyed this. At least I think I did, my short term memory is not too good these days. (True)
