~~song lyric written from the perspective of Christ's disciple, Peter, on the night Jesus was arrested after sharing the passover meal with his closest followers and praying in the Garden of Gethsemane.
~~~
Gathered ‘round you for the last time we watch you dip the bread into the bowl. Hearts and minds are racing wildly; I wonder how it is we’ve lost control.
You have come to be our Savior – very flesh of God come to reign on earth. Finally, people are responding! You’ve come so far from such a humble birth.
And now you say one will betray. Even worse, you say you must go. Jesus, I confess here today, I’m a simple man, don’t understand.
I’ve no idea what to say. I will stand in faith; this I know. I will not betray. I will stay. If you’re asking who’s with you, I am.
Later in Gethsemane, we three closed our weary eyes even as you cried in anguish, your sweat thick blood. Watch with me is all you asked us to do.
Then a second time you find us sleeping, and you are left alone to pray. “The hour is at hand,” you proclaim as forces come we cannot hold at bay.
And now you say one will betray. Even worse, you say you must go. Jesus, I confess here today, I’m a simple man, don’t understand.
I’ve no idea what to say. I will stand in faith; this I know. I will not betray. I will stay. If you’re asking who’s with you, I am.
They have taken you, Christ, my Lord. My heart aches. I am grieved in my spirit. Oh, to be with you now. They say I follow you; I can’t bear to hear it.
Twice more as I sit, contemplate my cowardice, failure, and faithlessness, I deny you yet again and cry as rooster crows echoing soul’s distress.
I must outrun my fate. Jesus, I do believe. Tell me it’s not too late. Tell me my eyes deceive.
Lord, I will feed your sheep. With you I’ll watch and pray. I’ll glide across the waves. Speak, Lord. I will obey.
And still you say one will betray. Even worse, you say you must go. Jesus, I confess here today, I’m a simple man, don’t understand.
I’ve no idea what to say. I will stand in faith; this I know. I will not betray. I will stay. If you’re asking who’s with you, I am.
Oh, Lord, forgive me, please, I pray. If you’re asking who’s with you, I am. I will not betray. I will stay. If you’re asking who’s with you, I am.
All the prophetic pieces are assembling before our eyes. It is time to prepare for Earth's final hour. There is hope for the future as you see that Day approaching.
“Vashti’s Daughter” delivers “The Whole Megillah”. The novel is rich, layered narrative that combines history, mystery, mysticism, time travel, previous lives, fact and fantasy and feminist reimagination into one compelling package.
