Hovered in a cave, we wait
for forecasted fall of light,
three days of darkness foretold.

Thunder in highest heavens,
a ruptured sky releases
collected tears, rage of years.

Rain licks the lip of our cave.
World goes dark and a low hum
surrenders to strange silence.

We do all we know to do
and cling tight to each other,
let go of fear to find love.

Earth splits, but heaven opens.
These humble bodies become
pure, living sacrifice as

alabaster angels ‘round
bathe us in a golden light.
Twin souls dance in waves of grace.

We give ourselves wholly to
each other and to author
of all that is good, holy,

confident that One who has
begun good work in us will
protect, refine, perfect it

until we are called to leave
this home away from home and
live in Light that never falls.

Though now we stare through dark, have
only dim idea of
what dreams of our love may come

we venture forth, face our fears,
forgive, love the way we can.
Standing in the rain, I wait.
