Okay folks, do you know what a "Barking" spider is? When I do a school visit and ask that question, there's always one little girl or boy whose hand goes up, then down, then up, then down ... and I always call on them. Their answer is, "Well, I know what my dad says they are, but it CAN'T be THAT!" This is the first poem from my book and the reason for the title ...
Barking Spiders
The barking spiders all march in
just past dinner time.
Some BIG, some small, they come to call
floating on the wind behind.
Each is clearly noticed,
although they can't be seen.
You're positive they're there, though,
'cause your nose is very keen.
You know you can't outrun them
and a net won't get them caught.
Your friends laugh 'cause they're funny,
but your mom yells 'cause they're not.
So open all the windows!
Crack the vents, real fast!
'Cause these aren't normalspiders ... BARKING spiders are ... just gas.
OH thats okay then, now Dad and I can go read your other poem, and don't tell dad, but he rips off some of the most rank...uh oh, here he comes...Rufuz (w00f)

I cracked up, and am still shaking my head at that one..from the mouths of babes, eh? And now, I will expect to hear them called barking spiders!!! Actually, I can almost hear my son-in-law using that term for himself!!!
cute...heard them called everything but that...one of the children in my class the other day..hollered out, "hey, someone done a fizzle!" that was the first time I had heard that one to...this was a great poem...I loved it..

Oh, that's so cute! Next time I hear the sound of escaping gas, I say, "Who let that barking spider out?" No one but me is going to understand that one! :) CJ you have quite an imagination, girl. I just love it! You're such a hoot!
Well young lady, thanks to you Moira has an autographed copy of Barking Spiders which from time to time asks me to read. I asked her if she knew what was a Barking Spider. After she said no I explained it to her. She said, "Papaw, that's not Barking Spiders, those are tooters. Soooooo, I guess you'll just have to change the name of your book."
Oh yeahhhh...just thought I will skip this one because I HATE SPIDERS but for the barking ones I have no fear I think they real ones fear mine.....lol!!
