The Key

I have a key in my pocket.
I found it just yesterday.
This key must unlock an adventure.
What does it go to?  Who can say?

Could be, it opens a treasure chest
stuffed full of diamonds and gold,
and maybe it’s buried in MY yard
by fearless pirates, scary and bold.

Or maybe it opens a journal
with it’s secrets locked up for years,
and if I find it and read it,
I’ll be famous and people will cheer.

I guess it could fit in a sports car.
I’d be too young to drive it right now,
but I'd hide it away til I’m older,
when I drive it, my friends will say WOW.

What if it unlocks a castle
with hungry crocodiles out in a moat?
I could paddle around and feed them
from my safe castle-guarding boat.

My adventures can go on forever
... if I just hang onto this key.
I don’t have to know what it opens.
It’s more fun just makin' believe.

It is so much more fun to "make believe"...
You have the key dear CJ! And it's the Master one that opens up everything you write!

I REALLY like this poem. I collected keys amd rocks and while sitting in my favorite tree I would take all my key treasures and dream where they took me. I welcomed my muse way back then. Keep these coming. I'm saving them because when I'm with my grands...I'll share them...bestest of all!!

Love,
Susan

It sure is "more fun just makin' believe", CJ! Your talent is boundless, methinks...and I'm enjoying these poems so very much :o)
Like something sweet, they make me smile...

CJ,
What a delightful read, and what a sheer gift you and your poetry are to all children!

What child hasn't found a key, and become totally obsessed with where it 'fits"!!!

Do you remember "Spam" keys? ..they fit into the doorknobs in the very early 50's! LOL

Skeleton keys like yours above, could fit into so many places, that when one of us found one, we put a piece of string through it and hung it round our necks, like a badge of honor! And no one else could use it, either...a cause of some major sibling debates!

As you can tell, the child in me, really enjoyed this one!

A very whimsical sweet write CJ. By the way I got my books! I can't wait to dig into mine this evening. The other one is a Christmas gift for one of my dear friends who just had a baby. I thought she would enjoy reading Barking Spiders to little Joshua when the time comes. Hugs and love, Michelle

And don't we all play at make believe. Another fantastic poem. Children are fortunate to have a poetess like you. Great Victor

As you pointed out so well, one only need to watch a young child and watch the gears turn in their head. Us olduns sometimes lose that when we forget how to make believe. It's obvious you haven't 'young lady'.
