I always slip into the relevant personna when reading your delights.
You write in a style AND with a generational eye that provides a nostalgic coach for me to board and journey back to fond, halycon days.
I recall Dad saying before he left for the late shift at the coal mine, 'No football on the road.' As per, when he left mother overturned his ruling. I thought she was ace for doing this. On this particular day, Dad came home early (Friday was early finish) and caught me. I ran into the house and upstairs to the bedroom and sat waiting for the innevitible. I heard my parents arguing, then I heard heavy footsteps coming upstairs. I braced myself. Dad came into the room, and stopped at the door and looked at me sternly. He then went on to lecture me as to why I should not play football on the road. I should have known better. You see, in 1961 at the age of 6 years of age I was knocked down by a truck and nearly lost my right leg. Here I was a few years later and a little bigger hearing Dad say that he did not want me losing a leg altogether. He was right. Mother wasn't so ace after all.
I imagine with your remarkable insight, you could pen a poem regaling a similar story and punctuate it with the appropriate moral.
Hello CJ..what a wonderful and talented writer you are--I just love your poems. They show that they are coming from your heart and probably about your personal experiences as a mom and grandmother. I see you grew up in a small town in Ohio and are one of 6 children. I grew up in Cincinnati oldest of 9 children..aren't grandchldren the greatest..I made copies of your poems to share with the mother of my grandchildren, my daughter..and the poem EEE RRR reminded me of our many trips to the ER for stupid happenings..Am now one of your trackers..
I will have to read this to Mo. Bandaids is one of her favorites of yours to which this is reminiscent. Wonderful tale of the child, a boo-boo and a well learned lesson.

Well that gave me some Oscar-winning acting to do! The wonders of hospitals and procedures to a child. I remember how fascinated I was!! I didn't let the unfortunate experience with the dog traumatise me - the stitches in my hand made it worth it ;o) Ha! When you tell a child "Don't!", they still go ahead just to see for themselves. Curiosity cuts/burns/bruises! I love your poems as I can think back how I was and identify with them. Thanks for the memories!!
I had that three years old kid around in my family, and stubborn too, because, despite the warnings, he needed to put the finger in the iron to see if it was really "that" hot!

To the EEE ARRRR he had to go...yikes! What an experience for anyone, but especially to a very young child! The E.R. can be scary; trust me. I have been in one; not fun!! (The bill's not cheap either...LOL) Very cute write; enjoyed this one.
