I haven't really been down "Memory Lane" recently except in posting these poems which serves a good purpose: I will now finally publish "some" of that 1988 book: "Childhood to Childhood". It may only be Lulu but it will serve to get it done. There was no self-publishing industry in 1988 unless you had big money and I got as far as typeset layout at that time.
I will be done with chapter one posts this week; that's enough for now. I won't use all the stuff but in 1 or 2 days on Lulu I should be done with a book which none will probably buy but me. At least I'll be done with them; I won't have to discover old manuscripts in my writer's tote anymore!
PS: while typing I was singing the chorus to this one - so it must have been written as a song back in '88 - Did you know musically, the memory of a musician stores everything? It came back to me. After all, I learned the piano through memorizing music! Still no way to record vocals even today - just the piano! (see my Blog)

Poem Artwork

Down Memory Lane

A play of light upon the waters and a golden sky,

A moment in time frozen long ago

And you’re caught in the camera’s eye.

A young woman in the glow of her teenage youth,

To see you now as my aging mother

Is hard to face the truth.

A life lived and a happiness hard won;

The legacy of a mother’s work shines in her loving son.

So there you are; children running through your daydreams again

Youth and love; all those joys that never end

It’s just a play of light upon a camera’s eye,

A frozen moment and you’re left to wonder where it went and why

In photographs and memories – scene after scene,

A flashing frame – a wink, and life is just a dream.

Down memory lane, things never change

You save your memories, things always stay the same

Down memory lane, things never seem to end

But you always have to come back up again.

I come popping back up like a cork every time I go down that lane-- but life's not so bad for me to pop back into.

A very nice tribute to your late mother, Michael. --Charlie

I often stroll down Memory Lane myself, peering at old family photos, and remembering both the good and the bad times. And if you can set yours to music - how marvelous.

Keep On Keepin On, my friend.

Went down there the other day, got lost, and never came back.

Memories are always sweeter than the living. We forget what it took. But those old photos can bring back well remembered times. And Moms that were young and beautiful.

This one is so wonderful. It reminds me of the thoughts that I had while looking through my mom's and my dad's photos. of their younger days. What romance and dreams they had together!!!

The mind of a Poet is a creative engine of beauty, wonders and grace to diffuse love, harmony; to learn and to teach; to instruct Solons and to inspire kings and Sovereign queens; to defend art and the language; and to stimulate intuition and imagination.

This poem is a flower diffusing the scent of love and union – inviting the bees and hummingbirds of the forest of the readers’ hearts to be fed on its petals.

"Down Memory Lane” brings me a tray of ambrosias for my literary tea.

I salute You, Poet.
