Digging for Arrowheads
It is the gray matter that hangs today
A steel slate blue that dances with questions
Announcing those far off storm clouds
With bolting jewels painting the sky
I want to be tied up with rainbows
And ride high on those silver leaf meadows
Where the lilaceous tiger lily growls
And the ditch weeds are tender asparagus
A natural harvest that I can see a mile away
It’s the wild earth that sows my roots
But the rain came to distract me
Pelting my skin like pebble stones
It felt good in a cleansing sort of way
Retelling me of the closed turquoise mines
Which reminds me
I look forward to the Indian messenger
The one who named me back then
He wrote my name in the wet sand
Next to those cactus up on the hill
It’s sunny there with a good view
I was digging for arrowheads…
