...a poem for Mother's Day

Poem Artwork

Mother and Child

Dedicated to the memory of Irene (Richardson) Paddock, my Mother  - 1911- 1996

She knew me, oh! how she knew me,
and loved me and understood me.
With all my imperfections, she loved me.
She was patient and understanding.

I loved her and love her still, but did I tell her
often enough?
Where was my patience and understanding for her?

She was my guidepost, my healer.
She was my clother, my educator, my protector.
She fed me and wanted only the best for me,
and forgave me my many faults.

She quenched my thirsts.
She tended my wounds.
She carried me when I fell.
She hushed me when I cried.
She consoled me in my failures.

She loved me and understood me more than I
ever acknowledged.
Did I return that love and understanding
often enough?

O,Truly, she was the Mother,
and I the child.

Authors note: My husband always cited that when you lose your Mother, you lose the best friend you have. How true . My calls to my Mother were daily; my visits weekly….not often enough.

Blessed are those that can sing their love to their parents.

I have enjoyed the reading of "Mother and Child".

A lovely Mother's day dedication, how true that they are our best friends.

Very touching homage. Your Mother was the full loving and beloved package.
My mother's introvert nature made it hard for her to show feelings. This side of parental care was left to Dad to demonstrate.

Dai

Good Mother's Day Poems always leave me in tears, and this is a good one, so hopefully I don't short out my keyboard as I write this.

You know that your mother knew you loved her. I wish I'd lived close enough to my mother to visit weekly, so I envy your the frequency of your visits. We can both be comforted by knowing our mothers understood we loved them.

Thanks for this poem,
Terry

"With all my imperfections, she loved me" That says it all about your mother. She must have known, too, that you needed to live your life and she needed to live hers. I'm sure she understood and knew you loved her very much. When we can't receive mother-hugs any more, we can still give them.

Love,
Connie

In your blessed heart you will always carry fond, loving memories of your best friend, your mentor, your mother who watched over and protected you. A wonderfully endearing and emotional piece in tribute of your "mom"....

Be always safe,
Karen

Very beautifully written tribute to your mom Micke, and how true that we never seem to give back to them what they have given to us.

I knew I'd love this...She knew you loved her, she had no doubt. You showed her with you hugs, smiles, kisses and the way you treated her. In life sometimes we get upset and short but they know that, they too have been there. I think everyone writes about their speical Mom and yours was heartfelt, loving and warm. She knows.
