I Will Never Be Daddy



There is no toddler on my knee
Bouncing up and down
There are no children giggling
Acting like a clown

No bedtime stories, no tucking in
No angel fast asleep
No camping trips, no plays or skits
For all of this, I weep

There's no one tugging at my sleeve
Begging me to play
No warm greeting at my door
After a long and busy day

No skate-board parks, no slides or swings
No chest of games and toys
No Barbie dolls, no baseball cards
For I have no girls or boys

There are no birthday gifts to buy
No parties, no arcades
No bubble-baths, no hide-and-seek
No tag and no charades

Oh, just once if I could hear
Those sweet and tender words:
"I love you Daddy, Come, let's play!"
I'd be soaring with the birds
