The Fisherman
Part One: Angelfish
Trawling in the sea of love,
Just going with the flow,
I caught a pretty mermaid once,
But had to let her go.
Now, fifty years have come and gone,
The sun is hanging low.
I'll cast my heart out one last time,
And then this boat, I'll stow.
Wait... I sense a tiny flutter...
Something's tugging at my bait!
She's pulling at my heartstrings...
Perhaps, I'm not too late!
This angelfish is strong and wild,
But my line has gotten weak.
I reel her in so very slow,
With the tender words I speak.
She wants to bolt; she wants to dart,
She tries to swim away.
I watch her disappear from me,
And bow my head to pray...
"Dear God, you sent me, from above,
A love that is so fine.
Please tell me, Lord, what can I do
To make this angel mine?"
The Fisherman
Part Two: Devilfish
I landed my sweet angelfish,
My dreams had all come true .
We would always be together now,
Forever, just we two.
But once I freed her from my net,
The angel that I knew,
Began to metamorphosize,
Sharp horns and tail, she grew.
Dark chestnut hair turned sickly red,
Fine lips now formed a scowl.
With Satan's voice, this beastly mute
Began to bay and howl.
A gnarled claw then seized my heart,
And flung it in the sea.
Demonic eyes glared menacing,
There was no place left to flee.
My strength was sapped, my spirit, weak,
My will to live was gone.
She tricked me with her sinful game,
And I was but her pawn.
As I lie, dying, in my boat,
I make a final wish...
"Please rid the world of evil fiends,
And smite this devilfish!"
