Evening Sky



The once radiant sun,
Now wasted and withered,
Plunged into the sea,
Then sputtered and slithered.

Streaks of violet and fuchsia
Quickly gave chase,
Full of glee and laughter,
They tried to keep pace.

But the dying orb
Soon vanished from sight,
And the worn-out colors
Gave up their fight.

Orchids and lilacs
Began fading away,
Melting and merging
Into a solemn gray.

As billowy clouds
Continued to play,
They, too, changed hue,
From ivory to gray.

These shadowy forms,
Hovering high in the air,
Became ghostly spectators
To the whole affair.

In the dusky haze, 
A sluggish moon came 'round.
It poked out its head, 
Making a yawning sound.

Soon, the sleepy sphere
Perked up and brightened,
'Til a comet passed by,
And it became frightened.

At last, steel blue gave way
To a ubiquitous black:
The cosmos opened up,
And eternal light shone back.

Through starry portals,
Sparkling O so bright,
The heavens poured out,
Bringing joy to the night!
