With the economy the way it is, I wonder how it affects the children.

How Many Pennies Does it Take, Daddy?
 
 
“How many pennies does it take daddy, so mommy doesn’t cry?”
“She’s so very unhappy and sad daddy, am I the reason why?”
“Do I cost a lot of money daddy, I really don’t need my toys.”
“I want to see my mommy smile; I need to feel her joys.”
 
“She takes me shoppin daddy and cries over things we can’t have.”
“Not like ice cream and chips, its bread, milk and healing salve.”
“She stands there for a long time with tears on her cheeks.”
“She needed that healing salve daddy, for the pain in her feet.”
 
“I’m so sorry daddy if I’ve been much trouble and I eat a lot.”
“I won’t eat today daddy, I’ll be satisfied with what I’ve got.”
“Just make my mommy stop crying daddy for it hurts my heart.”
“I have some pennies in a jar you can have, is it enough to start?”

A sad reality in this world especially for a child.I have to say that you are a talented poet because of the fact that you write this poem as if you were a child and you can reach into a child's soul and get inside of what they are thinking with their innocence and wonder.Take care of yourself.

Agreed: should never be. The children; the poor; the elderly; the disabled will reach a hand out quicker than a rich person will. :(

I can remember during the great depression how little there was to go around and how hand me downs were the order of the day. Insightful look into the mind of a child as they feel the pain for the tears of the mother.
