Poem Artwork

Wrapped in a dirty blanket
I found on the floor
How much longer can I hang on
Can't feel my feet anymore
The wind blows the snow
Through a broken window pane
As a far away whistle blows
From a distant train
This old abandoned house
Is all that I could find
To keep me from the cold
And the stares of mankind

***********

My stomach growls in hunger
As the shadows play
I've got to find the strength
To make it through another day
Behind my broken window
The world goes on and on
Not caring about this sick old man
Who doesn't have a home
This old abandoned house
Is all I could find
To keep me from the cold
And the stares of mankind...

Another i can relate to..i;ve had concerns for the homeless for many years..I wrote an essay called The Vagrant..when i was 18 & still at school..then in 2011 i wrote The Unseen..a poem..about the same subject..I even befriended someone who i met..about 3 days after writing the poem..he was sleeping in shop doorways..I helped him as much as i could..until he moved on to somewhere else.

Very poignant and thought provoking. I, too, have much empathy for people in this situation. Thank you for your comments on my website.

The way this poem was written
Leads the reader to feel the pain & hunger
many are experiencing in this country today.
In a matter of seconds things can change. . . . .

Excellent poem - enjoyed reading.

Linda, feed a lot of veteran's and homeless on or near the 4th of July. They are always in need many are homeless. So this poem very good and touches home. We are obligated by the Lord to take care of the poor and homeless. Peace!!!

Sadly All Who Read It Linda It

Only Is It Them Whence They Suffer Consequences

Become 1 Millions Of Homeless Who Live In Your There

Own Back Yards Streets,i.e. Simply They Believe

They Are All Infallible...

Until Then They Could Care Less..

i see him, Linda, see him in your poignant
writing and in my heart
and in this very wealthy state i live in
with hundreds of billions in the black (not the red)
and a booming economy i see him on my way to the shops

Bless you for this poem

There's a story in that old face. If we took the time to learn what the story is, we might be able to help him get out from under the situation he's in and into warmth and shelter instead of cold and starvation.

Stark real poetry Linda. This should not be. Not is a country that waste trillions of dollars on programs that don't touch folks like these. What have we become? What can we do? If we can't solve things at home there is really no excuse.

Peace, love and blessings to you,

John Michael
