Love is not smothering
Or a clinging vine
It's trusting and needing
Knowing you are mine
Love is not holding
The reins too tight
It's knowing to let go
That you will be allright

As a bird in a cage
You will never learn to fly
If I hold on for dear life
You'll wither and die
Spread your wings, my love
Reach for the moon
Like a morning red rose
Coming in bloom

Love is not demanding
Or having my way
It's giving and taking
And sharing your day
Love is not thinking
Only of myself
Or squeezing and grasping
Until nothing is left

As a bird in a cage
You'll never learn to fly
If I hold on for dear life
You'll wither and die
