Freezer Burns Thawing

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Love’s attempt to preserve itself in suspended fashion sometimes goes wrong especially when its appreciation is but only flesh oriented. Fortunately, some of us understand that and have moved on beyond the illusive allure, the freeze that burns. (Image by obsoleteangel)

Freezer Burns Thawing

How gently we savor love's hors d'oeuvres,
knowing not even in reserved bites
appetites can rise,
luring satiation into unguarded repose
while senses become numbed
with seduction’s imbibing gentleness.

As time passes,
how appalled we become
when spoilage seemed unavoidable,
frozen long-term preservation dissipating.

We think back…

Suffocated love,
life’s alarm for fragile illusions,
risks inevitable freezer burn.

Still…

For many,
love’s knowledge requires learning,
otherwise ignorance continues
blindly repeating yesterday’s false impression.

Perhaps it takes a freezer-burn thawing to wake up.

Daily, you come up with a unique approaches to your prosetry. In this case your analogy between long suspended love and leaving food in the freezer too long. Downright cool if not cold like in cold shoulder.

“blindly repeating yesterday’s false impression.” is a dimensional way to express this, and other non-romantic but surely relationship trajectories. I like the line, “life’s alarm for fragile illusions,” Pretty accurate description, Odin. ~~ djl
