Sweltering heat with no gentle wind
To cool our days and nights
As we go about each day
With our chores
Smiles disappear as the heat
Overtakes people’s hearts and minds
They lash out at each other for no reason
Other than the anger they feel inside
At the uncomfortable weather
That never seems to end
.
Then a reprieve from this torturous heat
The patter of rain on the window
Brings with it a wind that rustles the leaves
On the trees and makes the flowers sway and
Dance as they open up their arms to cheer
Their salvation from the anger of the summer heat
Birds swoop down into the puddles
Fluttering their wings to clean
As they take a cool drink they begin to sing
Their happy songs of relief
.
Children run out of houses in glee
With arms lifted up they laugh
And run splashing each other
Squeals of joy can be heard
As you feel the relief of the cool
Rain as it caresses each of them
