Through the eye of the lens; A camera man caught- the pain and suffering; Safety being sought- None would there be; The elements ate away- at the human side of sanity, as darkness swallowed day
The first would come and go; The second brought despair- Sweltering heat; More than some would bear- A Father left behind; A Brother; A Sister- All loved and lost; In Katrina's burning blister
So many stranded; With no hope at all- Not one string to hold to; Again, darkness would fall- Up on the rooftops; Holding up signs- Help me, Please! Thousands did they find
Today we remember, but what part do we recall? For me it was the children; and the empty chair against the wall- The man with out his meds; left in siezures embrace- and the sheets covering those that now rest in Grace
While politicians' tongues swelled through the lies; playing, pass the blame; Another dies- Through the eye of Katrina; Real truths were found- a third world scenario, on America's own ground

There is no quick fix for such devastation and it will take many, many years to rebuild, if in fact, rebuilding is even a viable option. It is very sad to lose so much and to find that there is nothing left to valdate your memories. Excellent poem, Lisa, so very nice to read you again, I have really missed having your words grace the board.

Lisa, splendid work. It will take decades to get back on track, especially with the useless Congress and a President that runs when there is an emergency.
Lisa you captured the black sins of humanity when faced with the anger of nature and forced us to look back on tragedy and ask why. Not only why the politicians did nothing but what have they done to see it doesn't happen again. Great intense and painful write my friend.
