The Forgotten Veterans

I wanted to write a poem today but words did not come, then a friend sent me this picture...

The Forgotten Veterans


 

Be strong, be brave, take care of your mom

Remember your dad, try not to think of that bomb

 

Life rests on your shoulders, you bear the weight of the world

It’s too much of a burden for only eleven years old

 

For each loss of life to enemy guns

New Veterans are created in their daughters and sons

 

Their parents were noble, devoted and brave

They secured for us freedom from our birth to our grave


 

I am humbled and grateful for the years they had served

Their valor granted me more than I have ever deserved

 

But there are these other soldiers who did not enlist

Who were handed a flag, as a casket they kissed

 

So when we honor our Veterans, let us please not forget

Those who walk with sadness in a life filled with regret

Sherry, I don't think there could ever be enough tributes & thank you's to any of our veterans, I have written a number of tributes myself & will surely write more, thank you for your beautiful poem.

One guy in our high school class lost his father in WW II. He always tried harder, especially to please his Mom. He's the only one to get a medical degree.

Whenever a soldier dies, many are touched by sadness. Too bad our government doesn't honour our Vets with the respect they deserve.

My heart is bursting today...with thanks and with sadness that I find no words can satisfy. War is what we do to keep our way of living free. The price is pricelss for ao many people. Even for those who haven't given.

Yes. This is probably the first Vetrans Day I haven't written anything. I don't know, somehow I just could not rise to the ocassion and I know I should be ashamed, but I know where my heart lies and that is enough for me today . . . This is special, Sherry . . . Special, indeed . . .
