Late one evening after a long hard day; a tired mother and her son settled in for a stay.
The son had his own bed but at two preferred another; each night finding his way into the warm bed of his dear mother.
She wanted to teach him so much but was exhausted from her day; yet with tired hands she rubbed his face and whispered as she began to pray.
She thanked God for watching over them through the night, and prayed that He would lead them by His shining light.
She placed her arm around her son’s small frame, sensing her love, he drew closer and did the same.
Her eyelids heavy, she drifted into a sweet rest; the young lad closed his eyes and gave it his best.
Try as he may, he could not sleep, knowing there was one thing he must do. Before he could rest, he needed to show his mother something he knew.
His heart shape lips pressed against her cheek, he touched her with his small toddler hand. He stroked her face with tenderness, hoping she would understand.
With the touch so gentle, and the kiss so sweet, she thought she might be dreaming. He did it again whispering words in her ear to assure her of his meaning.
He knew Jesus, for she had showed him every day; by the way she lived and loved and took time to pray.
“I love you mama” he said, kissing her when he was done; recognizing the hand of God, she said, I love you too, my son.
_________________________________________I wrote this poem after my two year old son woke me in the middle of the night by tenderly stroking my face and telling me "I love you mommy." It was a moment so sweet, so full of God, that I will never forget.

It seems so long ago but this brought back memories of (my now teenage) sons whispering those same words. What a blessing this poem is and our new found friendship in the Lord. It was not a coincidence we met but a godincidence.
