'Took one look at me - gave me splinters . . . '

Poem Artwork

Was traveling in my heap with a muso

On a dirt road trail, head full of sexting

Saw a strange fence. made me nervous

Took one look at me - gave me splinters.

Then I asked it, "Are you the fence down

under?" "Where you keep in cattle with

foot and mouth disease?" "Didn't you

hear mate, I was cleared of all charges!"

"And where three-legged chickens run

around?" "Oh, you must be thinking of

Chernobyl;" "And what about farmers

who sell their land to foreign investors?"

"Sorry Mr. Thanksgiving Pants, can't

hear you over the distant thunder!"

"You and your muso better run for

cover underneath that lightning tree!"

Then I started feeling sorry for that

fence down under - biding time while

the termites turned it into a meal; it

must have been once full of muscles.

And was showing signs of aging; no

more booty grazing when the farmer's

daughter came out - I asked, "Would

you like my glasses?" It just smiled.

Then it started singing like a rusty nail

"I was made by the hand of a slack jaw

who didn't have much to say; he was

always hammered - had sawdust brains."

I said, "Would you like a job elsewhere?"

"A place where the buffalo roam, and the

sky isn't cloudy all day!" It just smiled

and said, "I'm the fence down under!"

"And I ain't goin' nowhere with no bloomin'

yank!" "Especially one that has a muso,

and spends his time sexting!" "I'm staying

right here in the land of plenty!"
