Show Me The Way To Let Go...

Soothing waves lapping at my feet,
No sound except the beating of my heart,
And the sensation of sinking slowly,
Into the emerald sea…

I climbed a mountain to get here,
Rocky ledges,
Rough hewed hand of God,
Spit out of the mouth of a long dead volcano,
In some rage that made it vomit up rocks,
The size of buildings…

It’s a secret,
This cave of mine,
It belongs to me now,
The others who knew of it,
Are long dead,

And though there is one left,
She can never reach it again,
But I can-
And I come here often,
To think,
To dream,
To sleep…

It’s dark here,
In oblivion,
That is what we called it,
It’s lovely though,
With white broad shoulders,
And turquoise veins,
Like an old woman’s legs,

If you are brave,
Or foolish,
(Isn’t it really all the same?)
You can feel your way through the tunnels,
Just follow your heart,
And it will lead you to the center,
Of Oblivion,
Our home away from home…

There is a lake here,
Inside where none can see it,
Dripping wetly from the walls,
In the shadows of our fire,
It always looked like tears,
Like the mountain was crying,
Gouging trails in her white frail cheeks…

There is a rock rising from the middle,
And if you are brave,
Or foolish,
You can bear the ice cold water,
Made from the tears of our weeping mountain,
And she will hold her fingers so still,
So you can climb out and rest on her palm…

We lay down there,
And closed our eyes,
Steadied our racing heart,
And felt her fingers close around us…

We dreamed there,
And sometimes saw our future,
Planning our great escape,
They never came true those dreams,

She was lying to us,
All that time,
And we never knew,
But it didn’t matter,
Not then,
Not now…

What mattered was lying with our hands,
Spread so wide,
And within a single hair’s breath,
We were side by side,
Deep in the heart of Oblivion…

And we were not alone.

I am lying here now,
Reaching out to touch their fingers,
Stretching so hard my ribs are burning,
Or maybe it’s my heart…

I feel them,
So close to me,
I hear them breathing softly,
I closed my eyes today,
And sank so deeply into oblivion,

Listening to the mountain hum under her breath,
Singing their names to me one by one,
Even the one that could no longer come,
I felt her take my pain and anguish,

And realized suddenly why the mountain wept…

I love the gravity this poem creates, like a floating energy. You weave such life and emotion in your words, you can feel the joy and suffering, and you evoke the power of this private place deep inside. Powerful! Many prayers and Blessings ~Shell

Great creativity in this Reatta. If you can create this you can create away out. The path out is there, just as the entrance. The only question left is, does one have the vision and courage to travel. l&p G

Extremely powerful piece, Reindeer. And I truly believe that many have such secret places to contemplate both our bravery, and our foolishness, in life.

There's a secret place within us all. When we go there, we empty our pain, and in the hollow space it leaves, dreams begin to build. Very beautiful poem, very well written. It is full of emotionally stunning images. Thank you, Retta.

Exceptional writing! Moving and obviously drawn from a place deep within. This was stunning imagery:

Spread so wide,
And within a single hair’s breath,
We were side by side,
Deep in the heart of Oblivion…

And we were not alone.

This is an excellent one ... Good one to show me the way to let GO ... LOL , "Happy ... Love ... Care" Vs "Sadness ... Lonliness... Darkness". The world is always so cruel ... Evenif we wish happiness ... Beauti and Care ... Our Heart is never able to accept it.

What is this life made of ? BIG QUESTION.

A poem with many aspects, of longing, loneliness, being let down, then freedom, a real masterpiece of a poem...
