I Can Hear The Birds Again…

It’s not so bad being alone,
There’s no one to tear you down,
No one to ridicule your dreams,
The silence is lovely,
I can hear the birds again…

Sometimes I get a bit blue,
But then I think of you,
And all your broken promises,
As I sit and watch the sky change hue,
I realize there is no reason to go inside,
I no longer have to hide…

Others have come,
As others often do,
Wanting to save me from this life,
But I no longer desire to be anyone’s wife;

I can hear the birds again,
And they do not mock my singing,
Nor do they try to make me cry,
Out of meanness or spite…

Sometimes I try to listen to my friends,
When they tell me to give love a chance,
But I know the truth about love,
It is a fantasy we tell our children,
Making them believe if they are good enough,
They will find happiness and joy…

But it’s a cruel lie,
I’d rather sit here in my garden,
Watching the sun set,
And listening to the birds sing,

I can hear them now,
Can you?

True love experience is great Retta, but we shouldn't let the lack of it darken our day. I can hear the birds again also. Love has always been a mystery, and almost history. If I let it rule my day, probably would miss the birds singing. Nice piece. L G

I can see being content listening to the birds .. sitting in a small garden.. but one day .. you may want to be in love again.. Love doesn't have to mean giving up your garden or the song of the birds.. Just sharing them with the right person.. You don't have to be married again to feel all life and companionship have to offer.. Very open bitter sweet write..

Always,
Erica

Dear Retta,

In your cynicism about love you still manage to impart beauty. There is something so special about you and it saddens me that you've been caged. You're a butterfly meant to fly free. The man that captures your heart would do well to remember to let you and be glad when you settle upon his shoulder.
Lovely work

No, I can't.
But I am still a step behind you and envy your for your attitude.
Is that a pic of your garden? If so, I can imagine that you find your peace, sitting in there, watching nature and listening to the birds.
Stay strong and follow your path.

Bless your heart. Thank all that is good
and holy for the consolations Nature has
to offer, right? AND for poets like you who
know how to bring them out. Just walking
among trees is healing, isn't it?
Birds are endlessly fascinating. When you
think how small most of them are, their
strength and determination is beyond
miraculous. You see miracles all around
you, 'Deer. There are others, you know.
Be at peace. Love, Pea

This is excellent write from your heart Reindeer ... Excellent .. Loved the words and it went so smoothly ... Every Lines told the truth and i can feel the truth in those lines ... And i can feel the sadness as i tooo feel the same ... Its hard ... but when i am in such a situation i do think of those who care for me and love for me ...

I wish you too think of them and understand that may be they are too thinking of you .. may they are more caring and loving for you ... May all individuals have there own reasons ... They are busy doesnt means you are alone and sad ... Think what they are facing, may be they are in problems so do try helping out their problems .. they may be needing you badly at this time. Its time for you to be with them and care for him ... sothat he/she can be little relaxed and more comfortable ....

Thats is what is expected ...

I have experienced this many times and i wish you too do this ...

This was an excellent write and i felt it so badly ... this is an excellent write ...

Congrats and thanks for sharing ....

I am only just learning what you have so discovered here, Retta; that you have to be at peace with the knowledge of who YOU are, and to value yourself and your own personal space, before you can offer yourself in love to, or to be loved by another. There has to be reality and truth, so that we are free to love the TRUE individual. So, for me there is a bittersweet reality at work here: It is indeed a wonderful thing to enjoy the freedom and significance of hearing the birds sing for yourself, but I am also sure that those who have travelled the stony road of self-discovery have the ability to ultimately form whole and loving relationships "without condition" as well. For it is the very nature of God's love for us and which He plants in the core of each one of us. Beautiful and piquantly expressed as always, as only you can. TY Kate xx

Great piece -- great ending! And I must add: perfect title.

The last two lines of your first stanza: "The silence is lovely,

I could taste the narrator's sense freedom. You did it just right, Reindeer.
