I wrote these a few years ago, they are not happy,
But perhaps you will find them interesting.
Epitaph 1
Often I stood late at night,
By my window and took such fright,
To see a thousand lights burning so bright.
As I stood I couldn’t help but wish,
That I was one who had done,
Some small thing, nothing very high,
That would give them something to remember me by…
Epitaph 2
A deck of cards,
A hotel key,
It isn’t right-
It should not be…
A few small coins,
A piece of string-
One old and worn golden ring…
What wrongness could this man had done,
To bring such sadness and lack of sun?
Was it so little that he gave,
That he was buried with no name,
Carved upon his lonely grave?
Epitaph 3
Such sadness I felt during life,
I had no husband-
Yet I was his wife…
Such a despairing pain,
That threatened always to drive me insane,
Sadness, Sadness, oh such strife,
I am not sorry I left life…

Each epitaph is well-written yet I relate to the
last one the most. It mirrors my life in an odd-sort
of way. (Long story) Reindeer, you did GREAT!
Brilliant Job! Brava!

such sadness...was your life that bad? the first one particularly moved me to tears...you were and ARE a shining light in my world, and you have done something--you've written some damn powerful poems and given me encouragement and friendship, what more could i need?
now look what you did--you made me ramble. you are special to me, okay, kiddo? never give up--and may your pen never run dry

Great Epitaphs. Very sad thoughts of a life, but described very well in very few words.
All good, but I like # 3 the best. Husband and Wife are only titles given. If one or the other doesn't acknowledge the meaning of the titles then life becomes a oneway street. Well written.
These are wonderful, Reindeer. Yes, they're sad, but well carried out. I like the first one very much. Thanks for sharing your work with us; I always find it inspiring. :-)
Just as life during the pandemic was color-coded with different hues representing different levels of danger, life in its aftermath has become shaded in similar ways. As a self-styled “Seeker of Beauty with Beauty,” (borrowing from a quote by W.E.B.
In a post-coup America, an Illinois farm boy is drawn into the resistance by his brother's death. Captured, he is given a choice: betray his friends, or the girl he loves will be lobotomized.
